Alitaire Terdeu

From Chrono Stars

Alitaire Terdeu was the president of the Netherian nation of Terdeu from approximately 4335 CGC until around 4339 CGC. Her short term as president initially proved popular among her constituents, as she replaced the notorious Éodâtre Terdeu and repealed the "surveillance state" programs and laws that had dominated Terdeu's past decade. The resources once-allocated to the enforcement of these laws were seemingly dispersed among programs dedicated towards social welfare, which included the reinstatement of universal basic income laws that Éodâtre Terdeu had suspended. While typically such political overreach, especially on such a short timeframe, would be met with resistance and controversy, dissenting voices found themselves silenced by overwhelming praise throughout the newly-freed media.

Alitaire Terdeu's death in 4339 CGC has been the subject of conspiracy theories and speculation for the past fifteen years since. The abrupt, and public, nature of her death initially galvanized public civilian investigations, as public opinion felt sure that the death of such a promising and generally popular leader must have been foul play. However, no firm evidence of what could have "caused" Alitaire Terdeu's death has ever settled, and even the most popular theories touted by modern government officials and individuals who claimed to be close with the deceased president are riddled with holes and contradictions.

Though she had generally favorable approval ratings during her presidency, Alitaire Terdeu's legacy in the intervening years has become mired in controversy and skepticism. Revelations from the journals of Etne Parang that revealed the genocide of the hitherto-unknown seremindir species implicate Alitaire Terdeu in not only ordering the extermination of the species, but participating in it herself before becoming president. Further complicating the president's legacy is evidence suggesting a personal connection to Parang herself, which could point to political espionage before or during her presidency, particularly as an explanation for how someone of little initial political renown came to serve as president of a nation that had never heard of her. More skeptical critics suggest that the wide regard Alitaire Terdeu had early on in her presidency was not genuine praise but was the work of a covert public relations campaign on the new president's behalf.
